FOR THE CAHUILLA BOYS, 2015
This is a silhouette of a Joshua Tree (tsawsungarawmp in the Chemehuevi language), a sacred tree only found in the desert of California. The image is taken just after sunset when Chemehuevi and Cahuilla People (sister tribes of California) begin to sing their ceremonial songs known as Bird Songs. This time of night is when you will first hear the gourd rattle sounds.
