About the Work
Photographed for the organization Illuminatives’ Indigenous Futures event, this photograph features Cherokee citizen Macy Rose donning the stunning traditional Cherokee feathered cape made by Lisa Rutherford. Her halo is a special lighting technique I used to reference illuminations and the religious iconography of classical art that references holiness and sacredness--sometimes rulers and heroes, replacing them with us. Here we celebrate the future leadership of Native women and the power of this young woman.
